AUNTY FAY CARTER & AUNTY DI KERR AWARDED MEDAL OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA
The Federation of Victorian Traditional Owner Corporations and First Nations Legal and Research Services would like to acknowledge and congratulate Aunty Fay Carter and Aunty Di Kerr for their extraordinary achievements which have resulted in both receiving a Medal of the Order of Australia.
The two leaders have received the award for their ongoing contributions and services to the Victorian Aboriginal community.
First Nations CEO Tony Kelly said it was a proud day for First Nations to have senior elders Aunty Di and Aunty Fay recognised in this way.
“Both demonstrate and wield such strong influence not only within their communities, but the wider community more broadly,” Mr Kelly said.
“And yet both remain so humble in just how dramatically they impact, improve and inspire so many people through their ongoing community and advocacy work. We are incredibly grateful for the commitment and dedication of these two remarkable women.”
Federation CEO Marcus Stewart said he couldn’t think of two people more deserving than Aunty Fay and Aunty Di to be presented and recognised through such an award.
“Aunty Fay is one of the Federation’s founding members and remains such a vital part of the organisation through her ongoing contributions to the organisation,” he said.
“Both of these individuals truly embody everything the Federation and First Nations stands for through their strength and resilience in fighting for the rights and interests of Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Victorians.
“On behalf of the Federation, I would like to congratulate them for this significant achievement.”
